Around the end of January I completed this interesting read about the Aztec Empire (1320-1520). Based in the capital Tenochtitlan (now Mexico City), situated on a lake surrounded by mountains, they were highly religious - mass sacrifices come to mind - and they mostly spoke a language called Nahuatl. Tenochtitlan was actually a double city, a smaller portion of it had a slightly different culture, and with Texcoco and Tlacopan they formed the triple alliance. Several temples received visitors from everywhere bringing gifts to honor their divinity. They conquered land in order to collect fees from the villages under Aztec domain, to facilitate transport of goods and to provide soldiers in times of war. And war came, by the hands of the spaniards: they came, they saw, and they conquered when the Aztec leader sided with Cortes, and he repaid the favor by slaying the population and dismantling the empire.
